Jakarta, 18 August 2024 – As a customer-centric bank, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”) continues to provide education to customers and the public about the importance of safeguarding the security of their personal data, including banking data. To that end, Danamon urges customers to stay vigilant against frauds, one of which is in the form of falsifying contacts and addresses of customer service companies and businesses on Google Maps, including those using Danamon’s name.
In early August 2024, fraud attempts were detected on the Google Maps page misusing the names of many companies and institutions in Indonesia, with Danamon being one of the banks affected.
If customers and the public search for information about the address of a Danamon branch office or an ATM on the Google Maps page, the information that appears is a fake cellphone number or a WhatsApp number that is not the official Danamon customer service number. When the number is contacted, the recipient of the call or the message would act as if they were an official Danamon customer service, including by displaying the Danamon logo on the fake WhatsApp number profile.
It is also possible that the person committing the fraud would ask for information or provide a link that seems harmless but is actually an illegal attempt to steal personal data and customer banking information, such as OTP, PIN, password, and others. There is a high risk of personal and banking data theft if the customer clicks on the link or follows the instructions given by the person.
That is why, Danamon continues to remind customers and the public to always be careful and alert when contacting Danamon's official communication channels when carrying out various financial and banking transactions.
"Danamon continues to monitor forgery of customer service addresses or telephone numbers that misuse Danamon's name and replaces it with the correct information as a preventive measure to protect customers and the public. If you find a fake customer service contact or address that uses Danamon's name, please report it immediately to our official communication channels.
