Jakarta, August 26, 2025 – In today’s digital era, daily activities, including financial transactions, have become increasingly seamless. At the same time, this convenience also presents potential risks of fraud. To address this, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”), through its #JanganKasihCelah campaign, reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness on the importance of safeguarding personal data, particularly when conducting transactions in public spaces. The #JanganKasihCelah campaign underscores Danamon’s commitment as a customer-centric and trusted financial solution provider in protecting customers from activities that may compromise their security.
Digitalization has brought greater convenience in carrying out various activities, from adopting flexible Work from Anywhere (WFA) arrangements to conducting seamless banking transactions anytime and anywhere in real time. According to the Indonesia Millennials and Gen Z Report 2025, four out of five millennials and Gen Z actively use digital financial applications such as mobile banking and e-wallets for their daily transactions. Data from Bank Indonesia also reflects a sustained upward trend in online transactions through e-commerce between 2019 and 2024. In 2019, total transactions reached Rp205.5 trillion, rising significantly by 136.9% to Rp487.01 trillion in 2024. While this growth illustrates the increasing adoption of digital financial services, it also creates greater exposure to potential risks, including fraud.
However, when carrying out digital transactions, public often face challenges such as unstable network connections, device battery depletion, and other technical disruptions. In such circumstances, many turn to public facilities such as public Wi-Fi hotspots and charging stations that are typically free and without having to meet any complicated conditions. For instance, individuals may connect to Wi-Fi networks available in cafés or charge their devices via sockets and USB ports at airports. Similarly, public spaces such as parks and bus stops are increasingly providing free Wi-Fi access.
“Danamon urges customers to always prioritize security when conducting banking transactions in public spaces. Given the open nature of public facilities, customers are advised to exercise caution and ensure that the networks they use are properly encrypted. Cybercriminals often exploit weakly protected networks to access sensitive personal data. Likewise, the careless use of unsecured USB ports can expose devices to malware attacks designed to steal critical information, including banking data. Through the #JanganKasihCelah campaign, Danamon encourages the public to remain vigilant and use public facilities wisely to prevent potential fraud,” said Andreas Kurniawan, Chief Digital Officer of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk.
According to information from the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPB), Ministry of Finance, several types of fraud may occur when using public networks. These include Man in the Middle (MITM) attacks, where hackers intercept communication between devices and networks; sniffing, or the theft of data transmitted over a network; malware distribution, which involves spreading malicious software through unsecured connections; and fake hotspots, or fraudulent Wi-Fi networks deliberately set up to steal user data.
Through the #JanganKasihCelah campaign, Danamon reminds customers of key precautions to take before conducting digital transactions in public spaces. These include using a private cellular network instead of connecting to public Wi-Fi, avoiding the use of public USB charging ports by opting for personal power banks and activating two authentication factors such as biometrics to reduce the risk of data theft. In addition, customers are encouraged to maintain an appropriate distance from others while making transactions and to never disclose personal data such as OTP codes, CVV/CVC numbers, Debit/Credit/Charge Card PINs, or D-Bank PRO access credentials to any party, including individuals impersonating bank representatives.
When conducting digital transactions, Danamon also advises customers to avoid accessing links from unknown or unverified sources. For accurate and official information regarding Danamon’s products and programs, customers are encouraged to visit the official website at www.danamon.co.id. Furthermore, when obtaining information from other institutions, customers should always ensure that the website uses the secure HTTPS protocol to protect their data and reduce the risk of fraud.
“If customers notice any suspicious activity after conducting transactions using public facilities, we strongly encourage all customers to promptly contact Danamon through our official communication channels. Domestically, customers can reach Hello Danamon at 1-500-090, and for those overseas, please contact +62-21-23546100,” concluded Andreas.
