Danamon Supports the Empowerment of Special Needs Communities Through Capacity Building for Inclusive Education

Jakarta, 3 June 2025 – PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”), through Danamon Peduli, held a skill and financial literacy workshop involving students with special needs, teachers, and parents at 03 Bendungan Hilir Public Special School, Jakarta (24/04), and Lenteng Agung 02 Public Special School, Jakarta (15/05).

Through this program, Danamon promotes the creation of an inclusive education ecosystem and supports the empowerment of all individuals, including those with special needs, through capacity building and financial literacy initiatives. This effort aligns with Danamon’s commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth.

Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head of Danamon, stated, "We believe that quality education is the cornerstone of sustainable development, and that access to education is a fundamental right for all. Through our collaboration with 03 Bendungan Hilir Public Special School and 02 Lenteng Agung Public Special School, we place special emphases on education and inclusivity, in line with our commitment to supporting and nurturing the education ecosystem. We also aim to instill awareness of healthy financial planning from an early age among students, their parents, and teachers."

Amid the vital role of educational institutions such as special schools (SLB) in providing access to education for children with special needs, challenges remain in preparing them to enter the workforce. In Indonesia, although there are more than 20 million people with disabilities, only around 700 thousand—or approximately 3%—have the opportunity to work.

Within the industry, the food and beverage sector is considered to have strong potential to absorb labor from the special needs community. Therefore, it is important to introduce a range of knowledge and skills to better prepare them for entering the competitive workforce.

In response to this challenge, Danamon collaborated with Yayasan Sunyi Harapan Indonesia (“Sunyi Academy”) to implement the Danamon Peduli initiative. Sunyi Academy is a foundation committed to changing social stigma surrounding the disability community by focusing on education, vocational training, and expanding access for people with disabilities to live more independently and equitably. As part of this program, Sunyi Academy delivered training sessions covering an introduction to various types of coffee, the use of coffee machines, and coffee blending techniques. This aligns with the academy’s mission to equip individuals with disabilities with the skills needed to secure sustainable livelihoods in the culinary industry.

In addition to the workshop activities at the two special schools, Danamon, in collaboration with PT Zurich Asuransi Indonesia Tbk (“Zurich”), held a financial literacy session for 40 teachers and parents of students. The session carried the theme “Smart and Safe in Financial and Investment Management.” During the session, Danamon highlighted the importance of sound financial management and strategic investment decisions to help the public avoid the pitfalls of online loans (pinjaman daring or pindar) and online gambling (judi online or judol). Zurich, on the other hand, emphasized the significance of insurance, ranging from health insurance to education insurance, as part of comprehensive financial planning.

Through this series of financial literacy activities and workshops delivered in collaboration with Sunyi Academy, Danamon hopes the program will bring tangible benefits to the disabled community. This initiative aligns with Danamon’s vision to “Care and Enable Millions to Prosper,” and reflects the company’s commitment—together with its group members—to the spirit of growing as One Financial Group. Danamon strives to be a trusted financial partner, continuously striving to meet customer needs and support Indonesia’s economic and social development.
