Medan, 14 May 2025 – PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon” or “the Bank”), through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative Danamon Peduli, reaffirms its ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable business development, particularly by focusing on inclusive education. As it enters the second quarter of 2025, Danamon Peduli has announced a strategic partnership with Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia (“USM-Indonesia”) in Medan, North Sumatra, aimed at advancing the cause of sustainable education.
In this collaboration, Danamon provided smart classroom facilities for the Postgraduate Directorate of Public Health at USM-Indonesia, as well as hosted a financial literacy program titled "Smart and Safe in Financial Management and Investing," targeted at students and lecturers of USM-Indonesia. The official presentation ceremony for the facilities took place on Friday, 9 May 2025, and was attended by representatives from both Danamon and USM-Indonesia.
Riana Suagiat, Regional Corporate Officer for Danamon Sumatra Region I, stated, “Danamon believes that education is the cornerstone of a brighter future. Through Danamon Peduli, we place special emphasis on education and inclusivity as priority social and environmental issues aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our collaboration with USM-Indonesia expresses our commitment to supporting educational institutions in navigating digital transformation and enhancing the quality of their learning programs.”
In response to the challenges of the digital era, the provision of smart classroom facilities is intended to enhance the quality of interactive learning systems, enabling lecturers and students to engage through various media formats such as video, images, and audio. The donated facilities include smart TVs, computers, webcams, and a range of other supporting equipment.
Prof. Dr. Dra. Ivan Elisabeth Purba, S.H., M.Kes., Rector of USM-Indonesia stated, “Universitas Sari Mutiara Indonesia is greatly supported in advancing education through the integration of smart classrooms, which enhance access to information, foster more interactive and collaborative learning, and promote greater efficiency in terms of time and resources. We are deeply grateful for Danamon’s support in digitizing our learning programs and in facilitating the adoption of more modern teaching methods. We hope that the entire academic community of USM-Indonesia will fully benefit from the availability of this smart classroom facility.”
In addition to supporting the provision of smart classroom facilities, Danamon also organized a financial literacy activity attended by approximately 200 USM-Indonesia students and lecturers. Themed "Smart and Safe in Financial Management and Investing," the program was introduced in response to the growing prevalence of illegal online lending (pinjol) and online gambling (judol), issues that have increasingly penetrated university environments.
“As a financial institution, Danamon is committed to enhancing financial literacy within the community, particularly among students, who represent the future of the nation. Through this program, we hope that students and lecturers at USM-Indonesia will become more prudent and secure in managing their finances, and more discerning in selecting appropriate investment opportunities—thus avoiding the pitfalls of illegal financial activities such as illegal online lending and online gambling, which have become increasingly troubling,” Riana said.
This financial literacy program forms part of Danamon’s EQUAL (Empowering Quality Education for All) initiative, through which the Bank promotes the development of a more equitable and inclusive education ecosystem by providing capacity building and supporting infrastructure. This initiative aligns with Danamon’s broader efforts to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth.
“Danamon believes that quality education serves as the foundation for sustainable development. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, including educational institutions like USM-Indonesia, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to society and to the broader economic development of Indonesia,” Riana concluded.
