Jakarta, 28 November 2024 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”)
continues to step up its efforts to safeguard customers from the growing threat of social media-based
fraud through its #JanganKasihCelah campaign. This initiative underscores the bank’s commitment to
empowering customers with the knowledge to identify and avoid the latest fraud tactics, safeguard their
personal data, and prevent unauthorized access to their bank accounts.
Recent trends reveal a notable surge in various social media fraud schemes, which not only aim to steal
victims' money but also compromise personal data and gain unauthorized access to bank accounts. Among
these schemes, two of the most prevalent are fake lottery scams and fraudulent customer service
accounts. With the increasing number and diversity of these fraudulent activities targeting the wider
public, anyone can fall victim and become a target for scammers. As a customer-centric organization,
Danamon remains steadfast in its efforts to combat these threats through the #JanganKasihCelah education
campaign. This initiative emphasizes the importance of vigilance, urging customers to remain cautious
when conducting banking transactions and engaging in digital activities on social media platforms to
avoid falling prey to scams.
Chief Digital Officer of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, Andreas Kurniawan shed light on
the fraudsters' modus operandi, saying, "They frequently create fake social media accounts that closely
mimic companies’ official profiles. Their content is carefully crafted to resemble legitimate
banking programs, often misusing the latest materials or even management photos from official accounts,
making it challenging to distinguish between fake and authentic profiles." Andreas added that
fraudsters typically lure potential victims into clicking suspicious links, request sensitive
information under the guise of a prize claim procedure, and even demand monetary transfers for supposed
administration fees or prize taxes.
A national study titled "Penipuan Digital di Indonesia: Modus, Media, dan Rekomendasi," published by the
Center for Digital Society FISIPOL UGM in 2022, revealed that 91.2% of respondents had encountered
fraudulent schemes involving prize giveaways or financial assistance, making this the most prevalent
form of fraud in society. Fake lottery scams often masquerade as promotional campaigns from well-known
companies, offering enticing prizes such as vehicles or large sums of cash. Meanwhile, fraudulent
customer service accounts are created to intercept and respond to customer complaints that should be
directed to the company’s official account. Unbeknownst to them, the allure of tempting prizes
often causes customers to overlook the importance of verifying the authenticity of the information. This
lack of vigilance can leave them vulnerable, ultimately falling victim to these deceptive schemes.
"We strongly urge customers to remain vigilant when engaging on social media and to never provide
personal or confidential information to unverified parties," Andreas emphasized. "Always perform
multiple verifications before conducting any financial transactions to eliminate the risk of fraud.
Remember, #JanganKasihCelah (do not give any opportunity) to fraud of any kind: close the gaps, close
the opportunities!"
Danamon also emphasized several key recommendations to help customers safeguard their sensitive
information. Customers are advised to always verify information through the bank's official channels to
ensure its authenticity. If they encounter information that appears fraudulent or originates from
unofficial sources, immediately report the suspicious account and refrain from following any requested
actions, to protect your security. Additionally, Danamon reminds customers to exercise extreme caution
when dealing with transfer requests to personal accounts purportedly linked to the company’s
reward program.
To maintain secure communication, Danamon reminds its customers that all official interactions are
conducted exclusively through verified channels, including the Hello Danamon call center, official
WhatsApp, and verified social media accounts. Customers are strongly advised to verify the authenticity
of any account before engaging in any interaction to ensure their safety and security.
All of Danamon’s official communications are conducted only through the folowing official
