Jakarta, 25 October 2024 – As an effort to support diversity and inclusive culture in the workplace, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) launched the Danamon Berdaya Mengusung Kesetaraan (DAYATARA) program in early October 2024. This initiative demonstrates the bank’s commitment to the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), with a particular focus on people with disabilities. The DAYATARA program goes beyond offering internship opportunities to people with disabilities, aiming to establish a work environment that is more inclusive, fair, and equitable for everyone.
Inequality in the workplace remains a pressing issue, particularly for people with disabilities in Indonesia. According to the “Indikator Pekerjaan Layak di Indonesia 2022” report, published by Statistics Indonesia, reveals that only 3.13% or about 7.8 million out of 22.97 million people with disabilities have the opportunity to work. Barriers in accessing education, training, and decent work have left many people with disabilities struggling to attain economic and social independence.
Danamon, demonstrating its strong commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, has taken tangible action through the DAYATARA program to gradually provide equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
The DAYATARA internship initiative offers positions at the head office and across several Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, and Surabaya. Participants will be guided over a six-months period, from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025. Throughout this internship, Danamon employees—specially trained as mentors and buddies—will accompany the interns, so that they can be actively involved in creating an inclusive and disability-friendly work environment. This program not only emphasizes job skills training but also aims to build meaningful social connections between Danamon staff and interns.
Furthermore, Danamon firmly believes that diversity in the workplace will enhances overall company performance. According to the 2023 Dimensi Indonesia (DDI) survey, companies with above-average diversity exhibit financial performance that is 2.4 times stronger than those with lower diversity. This highlights that diversity goes beyond social responsibility—it's also a key driver of sustainable business growth.
Chief Human Capital of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, Evi Damayanti noted at the DAYATARA launch at Menara Bank Danamon, Jakarta, that diversity and inclusion are fundamental pillars for fostering innovation, collaboration, and shared success in the workplace. "DAYATARA, short for Danamon Berdaya Mengusung Kesetaraan, carries significant meaning, as we believe that a diverse range of backgrounds, skills, and talents drives success. This includes diversity in physical abilities, which should not hinder employees from working together to achieve shared goals based on each individual's strengths. We are proud to take this important step by welcoming interns with disabilities across various departments in our organization," said Evi.
"For our inaugural program, Danamon is collaborating with Setara Berdaya Group (Alun Jiva) to create an inclusive and disability-friendly workplace. This partnership involves conducting workshops and onboarding program to prepare mentors and buddies, as well as the work environment to provide comprehensive support for people with disabilities, before the internship process begins," said Widyarini Utami, Talent Acquisition, Employer Branding, Performance, and Culture Head of Danamon, and project manager for this initiative
To foster internal engagement, the name DAYATARA was chosen through an internal competition among Danamon employees, where Danamon employees were given the opportunity to provide ideas on this DEI program. Through DAYATARA, Danamon aims to cultivate an inclusive workspace by offering opportunities for people with disabilities to enhance their skills and gain valuable work experience, supporting their future career development.
Evi concluded that Danamon remains committed to offer equal employment opportunities, not only for people with disabilities but also for a diverse range of backgrounds within the organization, through other programs that upholding the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Danamon also aspires that this initiative will encourage other companies to create more inclusive work environments in the future.
