Jakarta, 2 August 2024 – In commemoration of its 68th Anniversary, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable initiatives and strategies as part of its ESG commitment through various actions and collaborations including CSR programs. One of the CSR programs held is a literacy program that focuses on developing skills and self-branding for 68 people with disabilities.
According to the 2022 Decent Work Indicator Report in Indonesia from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), out of 2,297 million people with disabilities, only 78 million (3.13%) have the opportunity to work. The 2020 National Labor Force Survey shows that the trade, restaurant, and hotel industries contribute 21.8% of the total workplaces for people with disabilities. The Food & Beverage (F&B) sector has great potential to absorb disabled workers because the majority of types of work in this sector can be done by people with disabilities with various abilities.
In accordance with Law Number 8 of 2016, private companies are required to employ at least one percent of people with disabilities from the total number of employees, and two percent for BUMN. However, the realization is still below the provisions. Therefore, support and provision of skills are needed so that people with disabilities have equal opportunities and chances so that they can be economically independent.
In 2023, Danamon Peduli will run a financial literacy program as well as training and internship skills to become a barista for the deaf and mute community in Jabodetabek. From 292 applicants, in a series of training and internship events, participants will be taught knowledge about coffee theory and barista techniques, as well as how to manage good business finances. From this program, 40 baristas graduated were ready to work, and more than half of them managed to get the opportunity to work in coffee shops or other types of businesses.
Based on these results, in 2024, Danamon Peduli will develop this program by adding materials on creating an attractive curriculum vitae (CV) and knowledge about the environment and disasters. In addition to training, Danamon also opens mentoring and business competitions for deaf communities who already have businesses. These two activity packages are part of Danamon's social responsibility to improve the abilities and confidence of colleagues with disabilities so that they can compete in the professional world. Danamon is again partnering with the Sunyi Harapan Indonesia Foundation, a foundation engaged in education to create inclusivity and reduce disparities for people with disabilities.
Overall, the program will be divided into two training batches in Jakarta, two batches in Bandung, and two business mentoring batches, with a total of 68 beneficiaries who will be part of Danamon's 68th anniversary celebration. The first training kick-off was held at Sunyi Coffee Barito on July 30, 2024, attended by Widyarini Utami Talent Acquisition, Employer Branding, Performance & Culture Head of Bank Danamon who directly delivered material on CV creation skills.
Abdul Hadi, Danamon's Sustainability Finance Head, stated, "This CSR program is a real manifestation of Danamon's commitment to supporting social and economic sustainability in Indonesia. By collaborating with Yayasan Sunyi Harapan Indonesia, we hope to help colleagues with disabilities to develop skills and to improve the abilities and confidence of colleagues with disabilities so that they can compete in the professional world."
The CSR programs on Danamon's 68th anniversary reflect Danamon's commitment to supporting green energy and environmental preservation in Indonesia, as well as making a real contribution to society.
