Danamon Donates Solar Panels to Educational Community in Central Java to Support Carbon Emission Reduction & Sustainable Ecosystem Collaboration

Semarang, July 24, 2024 – In commemoration of the 68th anniversary of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) and in line with Danamon's commitment to implementing sustainable initiatives and strategies through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Danamon held a solar panel handover event at Islamic Boarding School (Pondok Pesantren/Ponpes) Fadhlul Fadhlan, Semarang, as one of the educational communities partnering with Danamon in this Sustainable Ecosystem Collaboration.

Herry Hykmanto, Director of Sharia and Sustainability Finance at PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, stated, “As part of Danamon's Sustainable Ecosystem Campaign, we are committed to supporting the development of sustainable businesses with various initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions. This solar panel installation program not only helps meet electricity needs but also contributes to environmental preservation.”

Danamon continues to implement a series of initiatives to fulfill its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. This initiative, titled Danamon's Sustainable Ecosystem Campaign, started in 2023. The program includes various action within the company, such as installing solar panels and LED lights, building electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, planting mangroves, and stimulating the use of sustainable products among employees.

“The best practices we implement internally are used as a reference in the development of CSR programs and business activities in various Danamon partner communities. One concrete form of this CSR program is the installation of solar panels to utilize renewable energy sources for meeting electricity needs,” said Herry.

Solar panels are considered as instruments that can produce clean energy since they contain photovoltaic cells that which function is to capture solar heat that can be converted into electrical energy. The use of solar panels is a clean step that does not produce carbon emissions, thus minimizing negative environmental impacts and mitigating climate change, which is crucial to protecting humans, wildlife, and ecosystems.

Meanwhile, the Paris Agreement of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change states that every country must contribute to reducing global warming and keeping the average temperature rise below 2°C. The Indonesian government is also committed to using clean energy by around 23% by 2025 and achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Therefore, the use of solar panels provides many economic benefits for users, such as minimizing electricity bills, increasing property resale value, and having long-lasting durability.

The event was attended by several Danamon officials, including Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk; Budhi Harsono, Regional Consumer Head of Bank Danamon Central Java Region; Catur Riahasni, Human Capital Manager of Bank Danamon Central Java, along with DR. K.H. Fadlolan Musyaffa', Lc., MA, founder and caregiver of Ponpes Fadhlul Fadhlan. In this event, Danamon donated a total of 18-unit plates (8.8 kWp) of solar panels that can meet about 20%—30% of the school's electricity needs and 12 fire extinguishers (APAR).

As part of efforts to improve financial literacy among students, through Danamon Peduli, Danamon also held financial literacy, environmental literacy, and disaster literacy training for 270 students at Ponpes Fadhlul Fadhlan. This initiative is in line with the Financial Services Authority Regulation Number 3 of 2023 on Increasing Literacy and Financial Inclusion in the Financial Services Sector for Consumers and the Community.

“Through this literacy program, we hope to provide a better understanding of the importance of finance and sustainability from an early age,” added Herry.

The series of CSR programs during Danamon's 68th anniversary reflects Danamon's commitment to supporting green energy and environmental preservation in Indonesia. Through these various initiatives, Danamon strives to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute positively back to society.
