Danamon Urges Customers to Beware of Fraud by Requesting OTP Codes

Jakarta, 20 March 2024 – As part of its continuous effort to increase customers’ awareness regarding the security of online banking transactions, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk ("Danamon") is taking proactive steps by re-educating customers through the #JanganKasihCelah campaign. This time, Danamon urges customers to always be alert and maintain the confidentiality of their One Time Password (OTP) code, which is an important aspect in keeping their online banking transactions secure.

In today's digital era, online banking transactions are becoming increasingly popular for their convenience. However, this convenience also opens opportunities for fraudsters to steal customers' personal and financial data. Based on data released by the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), there were 1,730 online frauds recorded with total losses of up to IDR 18 trillion during the period of August 2018 to February 2023, where 64.1% of which was carried out via SMS/telephone, and one of the examples is a request for an OTP code.

The OTP code itself is a code that is valid for only one transaction and has a limited period. This code serves as an additional layer of security in digital transactions, ensuring that only the account owner can access and carry out transactions. Therefore, maintaining the confidentiality of the OTP code is an important step in protecting customers' personal and financial data.

Andreas Kurniawan, Chief Digital Officer of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk, emphasized, "We urge customers to always be alert and never share their OTP code with anyone, including even the bank. Remember, the bank never asks for an OTP code from customers. By closing the loopholes that can be used by irresponsible parties, customers can avoid the possibility of losses due to criminal acts."

If customers have already given out their OTP code to other people or parties suspected of being fraudsters, Danamon urges them to immediately contact and report the incident to Hello Danamon at 1-500-090.

Customers are expected to always ensure that the communications they receive come from official Danamon channels and to be careful of all forms of fraud attempts to obtain personal information, including OTP codes. The following are Danamon's official communication channels:

"We encourage our customers to always be aware of all forms of fraudulent attempts to obtain their personal information, including OTP codes. The #JanganKasihCelah campaign is part of Danamon's continuous effort to increase customers’ awareness regarding the security of online banking transactions. We are committed to keep innovating and providing the best service for customers, by prioritizing security and comfort in every transaction," added Andreas.
