Danamon and Sunyi Academy Wrap up “Berbagi Dalam Sunyi” Program by Giving Barista Competency Certificates to 40 Friends with Disabilities

Jakarta, 26 February 2024 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) through D-Bank PRO #SelaluMenggoda with Danamon Peduli's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program has completed the Berbagi Dalam Sunyi (Sharing in Silence) CSR workshop in collaboration with Sunyi Coffee and Sunyi Academy held from October 2023 to February 2024.  The workshop, which aims to build the independence of people with disabilities so they can face a better future, consists of several parts, including donations, financial and skills training, and certified internships.

The closing ceremony and the awarding of certificates indicating completion of the workshop and the internship program was attended by 40 people with disabilities who were selected from more than 300 participants. For four months, the participants took part in a series of trainings organized by Sunyi Academy, a foundation in the field of culinary industry employment development for people with disabilities. The trainings focused on three topics, including introduction to becoming a barista, financial literacy, and an introduction to coffee.

As a CSR program, the Berbagi Dalam Sunyi workshop began with a donation program that ran from October to November 2023. During the workshop, at several Danamon branches such as Pondok Indah Mall 2, Kelapa Gading 1, Matraman, Usman Harun, and Kebon Jeruk Intercon, customers could buy and enjoy coffee from the Sunyi Coffee booth for Rp1 (one Rupiah) using QRIS D-Bank PRO. Through this purchase, customers automatically donated Rp30,000 (thirty thousand Rupiah) to people with disabilities.  During the donation period, Danamon and Sunyi Coffee managed to sell more than 3,000 cups and the proceeds from the sales have been donated to Sunyi Academy to support the workshop.

Meanwhile, the Barista Class and the Internship Training session took place from October 2023 to February 2024 in three venues: Kelapa Gading 1, Kebun Jeruk Intercon, and Bekasi Juanda. The final or the fourth batch was held on 26 February 2024 at Menara Bank Danamon right before the closing ceremony was held.

By participating in the Internship Program with Kopi Sunyi, it was hoped that the participants would be able to immediately implement the various lessons they had learned during the workshop. After undergoing the internship program, the participants received a certificate, which is expected to help them get a decent job in the future.

Meanwhile, with Danamon's support, the Financial Literacy training provided to the participants included financial planning, financial management, financial products, and financial wisdom.  It was hoped that this lesson will be useful for the participants in building a better and financially independent future.

“Danamon is proud to announce that our collaboration with Sunyi Academy has run smoothly and successfully with a total of more than 3,200 transactions within the two-month promotional donation period of Rp1 with QRIS D-Bank PRO. We also would like to congratulate our friends with disabilities who have successfully completed the entire series of the workshop. We hope that the knowledge they gained will be useful as preparation for becoming a smart, reliable barista – not only experts in processing coffee, but also financially smart – so they can face a better future and become financially independent. This is in line with Danamon's vision to care for and help millions of people achieve prosperity," said Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk.

"On behalf of the other participants, I would like to thank Danamon and Sunyi Academy because for more than a month we gained experience to prepare ourselves to become professional baristas, on par with other baristas. I hope that in the future, there will be more programs like this so that the opportunity to empower people with disabilities is the same as what we got here," said Daniel Darma Putra, one of the participants.

In the meantime, representative from Sunyi Coffee welcomed the collaboration that had been made with Danamon and expressed hope that similar activities to help people with disabilities get a better future could continue.

"We are very grateful for the support given by Danamon so that this program held by Sunyi Academy and Sunyi Coffee could run smoothly. Thank you for the opportunity so that the participants could gain the talent as baristas like they do now. I am also pleased that they received financial training so they can be more alert to online loan traps and various online frauds that often target people with disabilities.  They can also now save money smartly and wisely. We hope that people with disabilities can continue developing and keeping their enthusiasm so that one day they can work as a barista in a cafe or a hotel, or even open their own coffee shop," said Mario Gultom, Chair of the Sunyi Harapan Indonesia Foundation.
