Danamon and Sunyi Academi Provide Training on Job Skills and Financial Literacy for People with Disabilities

Jakarta, 13 November 2023 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon), through D-Bank PRO #SelaluMenggoda and Danamon Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Danamon Peduli, in collaboration with Sunyi Academy, today officially kicked off a series of barista training classes & internship programs for people with disabilities as part of the “Berbagi dalam Sunyi” program. 

Held at the Danamon Jakarta Kelapa Gading I sub-branch office, the event was joined by ten participants of the first batch of the program, as well as Chief Digital Officer of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk Andreas Kurniawan and Yo Renno Widjaja, one of the Co-Founders of Kopi Sunyi and Sunyi Academy as guest speakers.

Divided into four batches, these training and internships programs will also be held at Danamon Kebon Jeruk Intercon branch office on 21 November 2023, Danamon Jakarta Matraman branch office on 22 January 2024, and Danamon Bekasi Juanda branch office on 26 February 2024. Throughout the sessions, participants will learn a variety of techniques to be a barista and be introduced to the different characteristics of various coffee beans from Sunyi Academy, as well as receiving financial literacy lessons from Danamon volunteers with a focus on good business financial management.

Upon participating in the Berbagi dalam Sunyi training program, each participant will be eligible to receive a certificate and an opportunity to join an internship program at Sunyi Coffee for one month. Founded by four young entrepreneurs, Mario Gultom, Almas Nizar, Yo Renno Widjaja, and Fernaldo Garcia, in 2019, Sunyi Coffee already has three branches in Greater Jakarta and is fully run by people with disabilities as baristas and cooks.

This initiative is in line with Danamon's vision to "Care and Enable Millions to Prosper", in which the bank strives to help the lives of people in need, including peoples with disabilities, given that here in Indonesia, many of them have been unable to secure decent employment to improve their health and quality of life. Based on data from Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, there are at least 22.97 million people with disabilities across various regions in Indonesia, with around 7.6 million of whom work in the formal and non-formal sectors.

“Danamon fully supports this training program. With the major theme of "Financial Literacy for All", Danamon provides training sessions on financial literacy to people with disabilities so they will be able to better manage their finances while learning about coffee theory and techniques to become reliable baristas. The program to teach financial literacy and financial inclusion aims to increase public awareness of banking financial products and services, as well as to promote inclusive banking practices at all levels of society," Andreas said, adding that the financial literacy training   

provided by Danamon includes financial planning, financial management, product finances, and how to be financially prudent. 

Moreover, participants were also enthusiastic about taking part in today's training program. “I want to thank Danamon and Sunyi Academy. Today I learned about finance and coffee, which gave me great joy. I am also grateful to take part in this Berbagi dalam Senyi training and hope that the certificate I get from this training and the internship program will help me get a decent job in the future as a barista," said Rafael Claudion (19), one of the youngest participants in the program. 

The Berbagi dalam Sunyi program started on 30 October 2023 with a donation program through which Danamon’s customers can buy coffee at the Kopi Sunyi booth at Jakarta Kelapa Gading 1 sub-branch office and Jakarta Pondok Indah Mall sub-branch coffee for only Rp1,- (one Rupiah) using QRIS D- Bank PRO and they automatically donate Rp30,000 (thirty thousand Rupiah) to people with disabilities.  

The donation program with D-Bank PRO #SelaluMengoda also takes place at Jakarta Usman Harun branch office from 13 to 17 November 2023, and Jakarta Matraman branch office from 14 to 16 November 2023. Funds collected from this donation program are used to support the barista & apprentice class training program until April 2024.
