Jakarta, 17 October 2024 — In the digital era, with various conveniences available, it's essential to remain
vigilant against the rising threat of digital fraud. To that end, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) encourages its customers
to remain vigilant in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks, particularly those involving social engineering-based fraud,
such as "Quishing" or QR Code Phishing. This initiative is part of the company’s #JanganKasihCelah campaign, aiming to raise awareness
against these threats.
"Quishing" represents an advanced form of phishing that leverages QR code technology to deceive individuals. As QR codes became more
common during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the increased demand for contactless solutions in areas like payments and restaurant menus,
fraudsters saw new opportunities to exploit this technology. While QR codes provide convenience in legitimate scenarios, their widespread
use has opened new vulnerabilities for malicious actors to manipulate them for fraud purposes.
"QR codes are indeed an innovative financial tool, but they are being misused by some individuals to commit fraud, such as redirecting
victims to malicious sites or tricking them into revealing personal information, including banking details. Considering the potential
harm, we urge customers to remain vigilant and adopt strong security measures. Through the #JanganKasihCelah campaign, Danamon educates
customers on how to identify and counter increasingly sophisticated fraud methods,"
said Chief Digital Officer of PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk Andreas Kurniawan.
A Quishing attack typically starts when a victim scans what appears to be a legitimate QR code but is, in fact, fraud. This
code then redirects the victim to a counterfeit website that mimics a trusted entity. On these fake sites, users are usually
prompted to enter personal information under the guise of verifying details for a particular service. In more severe cases,
victims may be directed to make payments to unauthorized accounts, leading to immediate financial loss.
To that end, Danamon offers several key guidelines to help customers safeguard themselves and their personal data from Quishing
attacks. First, customers are encouraged to use the scan feature from trusted applications, like the QRIS feature in D-Bank PRO,
when making payments, rather than scanning QR codes directly with a smartphone camera. Additionally, it's crucial to always verify
the recipient's identity before finalizing any transactions, ensuring the legitimacy of the party involved. These steps provide an
extra layer of security against potential fraud.
Customers are also advised to verify the legitimacy of websites accessed through QR codes. For example, when dealing with Danamon
banking services, they should ensure they are on the official site, like www.danamon.co.id. Furthermore, caution is needed when
prompted to enter personal information on unfamiliar forms or websites, as these could be fraud attempts to steal sensitive data.
Being vigilant about the authenticity of such requests can help prevent potential scams and protect personal information.
Keeping your software and security systems up to date on mobile devices and computers is also crucial. If you suspect you've scanned
a fraud QR code, exit the website immediately without entering any personal details. For QRIS payments, always verify the recipient's
name, and if it appears incorrect, cancel the transaction right away to avoid potential scams. These precautions can significantly reduce
the risk of falling victim to Quishing attacks.
On top of it, if there is any suspicious activity in the transaction history, customers are encouraged to immediately report it to
Hello Danamon at 1-500-090. To further protect customers, Danamon always underscores the importance of ensuring that the QR code
information received comes from a responsible party and through official media. All official Danamon communications are only made
through the following official communication media:
