11 August 2022 – PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”) today inaugurated a clean water facility in Gembong Village, Pacitan, East Java. The ceremony also marked the start of Danamon's series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs dubbed ‘Clean Water and Sanitation for Nusantara’ implemented in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia. Present during the event were PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk’s Sustainability Finance Head, Abdul Hadi, and Dompet Dhuafa’s General Manager for Waqf Fundraising Bobby P. Manullang.
Through this series of programs, Danamon manifests its commitment to improve communities’ quality of life by building clean water sources in each of the eight (8) beneficiary cities. The construction of wells and sanitation facilities represents the chosen Water Waqf program as part of the Bank’s contribution to social banking products, done in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia. The ‘Clean Water and Sanitation for Nusantara’ program is carried out upon assessment of the communities, including their surrounding environment, which require clean water and proper sanitation. To complement this series of CSR programs, Danamon also educates the community so residents can conserve water sources and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The facilities, consisting of wells and sanitation, will be handed over to stakeholders in the area while implementing partners will submit progress and final activity reports.
“To achieve Danamon’s vision of Caring and Helping Millions Achieve Prosperity, we recognize that there is a prerequisite of having access to clean water and proper sanitation for all. Danamon is happy to synergize with Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia to build clean water and sanitation facilities which we believe can improve people's quality of life,” said Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk.
“Praise be to God, our KolaborAksi with Danamon to carry out the Dompet Dhuafa Waqf Well program continues into six (6) points. Currently, we inaugurated the program on this blessed Thursday morning in the Ngasem Hamlet of Gembong Village, Pacitan, East Java. This clean water source and its supporting facilities will be a new oasis for local residents to readily enjoy. This represents the second phase of collaboration between Dompet Dhuafa and Danamon in providing access to clean water and we hope that Waqf in the form of wells such as this brings more blessings to the community and Danamon. Once again, thank you for trusting Bank Danamon Indonesia for Dompet Dhuafa,” said Bobby P. Manulang, Waqf Dompet Dhuafa’s General Manager for Fundraising.
Through collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia, Danamon Realizes Commitment to Improve People’s Quality of Life
To build clean water and sanitation facilities in the program’s target areas, Danamon works with both Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia to assess the beneficiary communities’ needs and environment. This program, which started in December 2021, has already completed constructions in all target areas: Danamon’s collaboration with Habitat Indonesia at two sites in February 2022, and another collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa at six sites in June 2022.

‘Clean Water and Sanitation Program for Nusantara’ as Part of Danamon Three Pillars of CSR
The ‘Clean Water and Sanitation for Nusantara’ program, which is implemented in collaboration with Dompet Dhuafa and Habitat Indonesia, manifests Danamon's commitment to support sustainable business development. This is achieved by reducing adverse environmental and social impacts that might arise from business activities and operations, working actively to find solutions to global environmental problems through its business activities, and complying with applicable laws and regulations.
Danamon’s implementation of CSR is based on three main pillars, namely:
The focus on providing clean water and sanitation for people in need stems from the realization that many Indonesians still experience difficulties to access clean water and sanitation. As part of the implementation of the Government Development Work Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024, Bappenas has adjusted the standards for improving the quality of drinking water, settlements, and national sanitation in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) standards. In relation to SDG’s sixth aim, achieving "decent" access has become insufficient. Rather emphasis has now been put on achieving "safe" targets. According to SDG standards, “safe” refers to a facility that can be accessed sustainably. Currently, the level stands at 87.8% (including 6.7% safe access) of access to safe drinking water while the level of access to sanitation posted 74.6% (including 7.42% safe access). Domestic wastewater and achievement of handling and waste reduction stood at 59.45% and 1.19% respectively. In fact, the government has targeted 100% access to safe drinking water (including 15% safe access), 90% access to proper domestic wastewater (including 15% safe access), and 80% access to solid waste for handling and 20% for reduction.
Indeed, these targets cannot be achieved without synergy and collaboration by all public and private sectors including individuals. Therefore, Danamon always campaigns for various initiatives to accelerate improvement of economic and social welfare, and environmental quality. It also encourages communities and employees to take an active role in using renewable energy, such as natural sunlight by installing solar panels or PLTS. Danamon implements these through its Danamon Peduli activity which is part of the overall CSR program.
“Today's inauguration of the clean water facility in Pacitan is part of Danamon’s larger initiative to realize its vision of Caring and Helping Millions of People Achieve Prosperity. Moving forward, Danamon will continue to focus efforts on synergizing various programs related to reducing carbon emissions, digitization, and community welfare support aspects," concluded Hadi.
