Semarang, 14 July 2023 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) embodies the theme of TUMBUH BERSAMA in celebration of its 67th anniversary. As a bank with a vision to "Care and Enable Millions to Prosper", Danamon through Danamon Peduli program collaborated with Yayasan Benih Baik Indonesia to plant 10,000 mangrove trees at Tirang Beach, Semarang on Friday, July 14, 2023.
In this activity, Danamon involved more than 100 employees of Danamon Central Java Region or commonly called Danamoners to help to plant the trees along with the Semarang City Government. This activity was also attended by FX. Bambang, S.Sos, Head of the Environmental Agency represent Mayor of Semarang; Herry Hykmanto, Director of Syariah & Sustainability Finance Danamon; Dadi Budiana, Director of Risk Management Danamon; Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head Danamon; Samuel Sugeng Rijadi, Regional Head Central Java Danamon; and Farhan Prastiyan, Parnership Manager Yayasan Benih Baik Indonesia.
"In addition to our commitment to the financial needs of our customers, the growth and development of our employees and the wider community, Danamon is also committed to grow with the communities that have become Danamon's partners in running sustainable business programs and development. Through the Danamon Peduli program, Danamon actively campaigns for initiatives to reduce carbon emission levels and encourages employee’s active participation in achieving net zero carbon emission targets, one of which is carried through mangrove planting activities. Since 2022 until now, Danamon has planted 32,500 mangroves including planting at Tirang Beach, Semarang," said Herry Hykmanto, Director of Syariah & Sustainability Finance Danamon.
Mangroves have several significant benefits for environmental sustainability. Apart from acting as natural infrastructure that helps protect adjacent areas by reducing erosion and absorbing the impact of storm surges during extreme weather, mangroves also can absorb carbon dioxide and thus help fight climate change. They also can filter pollutants from the water and provide habitat for various wildlife species. Furthermore, mangroves also contribute to a nature-based economy. It is hoped that this initiative can maintain the balance of the coastal ecosystem, which has a positive impact on the welfare of the local community, especially the economy of milkfish fishermen around the Tirang Beach area.
The collaboration with Yayasan Benih Baik Indonesia was chosen because it is equipped with platform called TanamKebaikan.com developed by the BenihBaik.com team. This platform will make it easier to monitor mangrove growth and thus carbon sequestration projections can be calculated more accurately.
In addition to CSR programs that focus on the external of the company, Danamon believes internal actions also contribute in making the company more environmentally friendly. This translates to Danamon's commitment to achieve net zero carbon emission in its operations by 2030. These actions include installing solar panels in Danamon's buildings, incentivizing employees and communities to install solar panels through easy and low-cost financing programs, encouraging the use of electric vehicles, and conducting group greenhouse gas emission estimation and setting.
"Through these initiatives and programs, we aspire to continue to grow as a customer-centric organization as "Your Bank of Choice", with a unique value proposition that focuses on sales and service excellence, strong synergies with our partners, the Government and communities - and supported by world-class technology to provide the best financial solutions to put our customers in control of their financial needs and goals," Herry concluded.
