Danamon Encourages the Public to be Cautious and Wise While Using Social Media to Prevent Digital Fraud

image press release

Jakarta, 24 November 2025 - In the midst of the digital era and the ease of access and various features that continue to develop, social media is not only a means of communication, but also a platform for sharing experiences, daily activities, and business promotions. Despite these conveniences, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (“Danamon”), a customer-centric and trusted financial solutions provider, acknowledges that irresponsible use of social media can create vulnerabilities to cybercrime. Therefore, through its #JanganKasihCelah educational campaign, Danamon continues to raise public awareness and educate the community on preventing fraud that exploits personal data obtained from social media.

According to the Indonesia Digital Report 2025, as of February 2025 there were approximately 143 million active social media users in Indonesia, indicating that more than half of the population uses these digital platforms in their daily lives. The range of social media platforms used is also highly diverse, spanning instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp and Line, social networking sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn, and photo and video-sharing platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. This diversity certainly offers many benefits, but it also demands greater caution when sharing personal information.”

The trend of over-sharing, namely sharing excessive personal information, has become a major concern in social media usage that must be carefully monitored. Many users unknowingly share personal and confidential information, such as their full name, date of birth, identity card number, and banking transaction details, including Danamon Debit / Credit / Charge Card numbers, OTP codes, and CVV/CVC security codes.

This data can then be exploited by malicious actors to carry out various types of fraud, including using card details for unauthorized purchases, accessing victims’ digital banking platforms, applying for online loans in someone else’s name, and conducting social engineering by impersonating bank employees or close relatives.

“Social media has now become an integral part of people’s lives, particularly as a primary means of communication. Through social media, individuals can convey and disseminate information rapidly to a large audience in a single moment. However, alongside the rapid evolution of social media, there remain loopholes that can be exploited for cybercrime if users are not prudent in how they manage and use their social media accounts. It is not uncommon for individuals to overshare personal and confidential information on social media, creating opportunities for criminals to commit fraud, including gaining unauthorized access to victims’ digital banking platforms. Through the #JanganKasihCelah educational campaign, Danamon urges the public to use social media wisely by understanding which information can and cannot be shared digitally, and by consistently safeguarding the confidentiality of personal data. With a sound understanding, the public can avoid financial losses arising from cybercrime,” said Enriko Sutarto, Consumer Lending Business Head of Danamon.

This campaign is designed not only to build awareness, but also to encourage concrete preventive actions. The public is advised to carefully review every social media post to ensure that no personal data or confidential information is disclosed. Always ensure that no banking-related information is uploaded or shared in any form. In addition, it is important to respect others’ privacy by not sharing personal data without their consent, as such information may also be vulnerable to misuse.

“For Danamon customers who may have already shared confidential data on social media, it is recommended to immediately change the passwords and PINs of their banking accounts, and to temporarily block their transaction cards via the D-Bank PRO application or permanently block them by contacting the Hello Danamon service at 1-500-090 for domestic calls and +62-21-23546100 for calls from abroad,” Enriko explained.

In addition, Danamon provides various official communication channels that customers can access to obtain information and assistance, including:

  • WhatsApp: Danamon Chat 0858-1-1-500-090 (verified account with a green tick)
  • Facebook: Danamon Bank (verified account with a blue tick)
  • X: @danamon (verified account with yellow tick) and @hellodanamon
  • Instagram: @mydanamon (verified account with a blue tick) and @lifeasdanamoners
  • YouTube: Bank Danamon
  • LinkedIn: PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (verified account with a grey tick)
  • TikTok: @bankdanamon

“With the growing use of social media, individual awareness and vigilance are crucial to preventing financial losses caused by fraud. It is hoped that the public will embrace the #JanganKasihCelah message as a constant reminder of the importance of using social media wisely. By understanding the risks and implementing appropriate preventive measures, the public can enjoy the benefits of social media without fear of becoming victims of cybercrime,” Enriko concluded.
