Jakarta, July 22, 2024 – In conjunction with its 68th anniversary, PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) held a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) talk show "Breaking the Sandwich Generation Chain" on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Menara Bank Danamon. This event is part of Danamon's commitment to continuously implement sustainable initiatives and strategies through various actions and collaborations, including CSR programs, as part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitment.
Through Danamon Peduli, the company’s social responsibility program, Danamon focuses on the ‘Literacy for All’ program, which reaches various communities: education, SMEs, agriculture, and disabled people. On the other hand, Financial Hospital (Finhos), established by the London School of Public Relations (LSPR) Jakarta, expands financial literacy projects exploring current financial issues in society. With the same enthusiasm for educating various groups, Danamon and Finhos LSPR collaborated to hold this talk show with a target of 150 participants from multiple Millennial and Gen Z communities.
According to the Indonesian Population Census in 2023, almost 12 percent or around 29 million Indonesian residents fall into the elderly category. In a study by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) titled "Aging Well in Asia," released in May 2024, the elderly dependency ratio in Indonesia reached 50 percent. Based on this data, many older people still rely on money transfers from their families for their livelihoods, especially from their children. This becomes a significant impact of the increasing number of young people becoming the "sandwich generation," those who have to support their parents and their children for those who are married.
This talk show thoroughly discussed the phenomenon of the "sandwich generation," the problems faced, and how to deal with them. It also provided career, financial, and investment tips to create a financially stable and independent generation that can break the "sandwich generation" chain in the future.
Speakers at this talk show included Asthika Dhamasatya, National Bancassurance Sales & Distribution Head Danamon; Sawungrono Dewawisesa, Market Strategist & Investment Advisory Head Danamon; Ligwina Hananto, Founder of Quantum Magna (QM) Financial; Ryan Dwana, Head of Marketing Reku; Monica Cravenetya, Qualitative Director of Deka Research; Salihuddin Harahap, Career & Business Coach; Amel Berliana, Pilot & Marketing Representative for International Investment Company, and Mohammad Jusuf Hamka, an entrepreneur and investor.
Abdul Hadi, Sustainability Finance Head of Danamon, stated, "This CSR program is a tangible manifestation of Danamon's commitment to supporting social and economic sustainability in Indonesia. Through collaboration with Finhos LSPR, we hope to provide a deeper understanding of the importance of financial literacy and how young generations can manage and organize their finances better."
The CSR programs during Danamon's 68th anniversary reflect Danamon's commitment to supporting green energy and environmental preservation in Indonesia, reducing carbon footprints, and also contributing to society.
