Pontianak, December 3, 2023 - PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Danamon) has once again shown its commitment to supporting sustainable business development and environmental preservation through various initiatives packaged in the Danamon Peduli program.
Apart from focusing on reducing carbon emissions, the program also focuses on the issues of education and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Engaging employees as volunteers - known as D-Volunteers - the 2023 Danamon Peduli Lingkungan program in the Kalimantan Region aims to improve the function of city parks and sidewalks as well as to educate the public about reducing the use of single-use plastic bags.
The handover ceremony was convened at Waterfront City Pontianak, presided over by Danamon Kalimantan Regional Corporate Officer, Sandra Angelia to Mayor of Pontianak, Ir. Edi Rusdi Kamtono, MM, MT accompanied by several agency heads and Head of Benua Melayu Laut Sub-district. During the event, Pontianak City Government expressed appreciation and support for the steps taken by Danamon to keep the city of Pontianak beautiful and clean.
"Comfortable green open spaces are one of the priorities for urban communities to bring harmony in life. In this activity, Danamon has provided 40 park chairs and 20 garbage bins that will provide comfort and cleanliness for the people crossing the road. By improving the function of city parks and sidewalks on Jalan Jendral Ahmad Yani and in several city parks such as Digulist Park, Catur Park, Akcaya Park and at Waterfront City, Danamon hopes to make a positive contribution in creating a greener, cleaner, and more comfortable environment for residents of Pontianak," said Regional Corporate Officer Danamon of Kalimantan Region Sandra Angelia.
Apart from programs to improve the function of city parks and sidewalks, D-Volunteers also carry out community service at the Pontianak Waterfront, an area on the banks of the Kapuas River. In this community service, D-Volunteers distributed 1,000 reusable bags to people who visited the area. Pontianak Waterfront is one of the open spaces popular with the people of Pontianak City and is also a destination for tourists to enjoy the beauty of the Kapuas River. It is hoped that this program can make the Pontianak Waterfront cleaner and become a more environmentally friendly destination.
As part of Danamon's efforts to support a more sustainable environment, the distribution of reusable bags is also a contribution to encouraging the implementation of Regulation of Pontianak Mayor Number 6 of 2019 on Reducing Use of Single-Use Plastic Bags. By providing reusable bags to the public, Danamon hopes to educate and encourage awareness of the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastic bags.
As is the case in many other cities, single-use bag waste can pose a significant problem in Pontianak. The waste can be found in rivers, streets, and garbage bins. Although it is used once, the damage of single-use plastic bags can be felt for tens to hundreds of years.
"We hope these reusable bags can reduce consumption of single-use plastic and encourage the use of reusable bags as an environmentally friendly alternative. We hope that this small action can be the first step for people to live sustainably and environmentally friendly," Sandra added.
Danamon Peduli Lingkungan program is part of Danamon's long-term commitment to preserving the environment. Danamon continues to strive to be an agent of positive change in encouraging sustainability in all its operational areas. Danamon believes that collaboration and participation from everyone can achieve a greener and better-quality environment, as well as encouraging sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
