Jakarta, 10 October 2019. PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk (Bank Danamon) and MUFG Bank, Ltd., (MUFG), members of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc., hosted their first joint Business Matching Fair today, bringing together Japanese, Indonesian and Southeast Asian corporate clients to network and explore business opportunities.
The two strategic partner banks have arranged a total of 118 meetings during the one-day fair held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta. Close to 80 small-to-medium enterprises and large corporates from Indonesia and Japan were in attendance. These companies are clients largely with Bank Danamon and MUFG and hail from a variety business sectors. They include manufacturers, distributers and traders of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), food and beverage, household goods, personal care as well as cosmetics. In addition, restaurant and coffee chains from Japan have also signed up for the event.
Business matching is commonly practiced by banks in Japan, which introduce domestic corporate clients to each other as a value-added, generally free-of-charge service. MUFG has taken this concept further by connecting its Japanese clients with local and regional companies across key markets in Asia. It has held 20 such fairs to date in Japan and across major cities in the region such as Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Manila.
MUFG has previously held one business matching session for its clients in Jakarta in 2012.
Through months of pre-screening and evaluation, both banks identified clients and arranged meetings for business matching according to their business profiles, goals and needs. Through this value-added, free-of-charge service, participants can leverage on the banks’ strong reputations, deep market experience and vast client networks to meet prospective business partners.
In May this year, MUFG completed its strategic acquisition of Bank Danamon, thereby enhancing its footprint not only in Indonesia but across its regional network, which includes partnerships with banks in Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines.
“As one of the largest global banks in Indonesia, we have long established ourselves as a partner-of-choice for local and international corporates in the country. That’s one of MUFG’s key value additions that we bring to our partner banks. With global and Japanese business sentiment of Indonesia remaining as optimistic as ever, we will continue to cement the MUFG-Bank Danamon partnership to better intermediate trade and business flows in and out of the country,” Daisuke Ejima, Executive Officer and Country Head of MUFG Indonesia said.
“Just as Bank Danamon’s strategic partnership with MUFG heralds an exciting new era for both our organisations, we hope that this first-ever business matchmaking session by the two banks will bring our Indonesian and Japanese clients closer and result in business collaboration that would be mutually beneficial and contribute to the long-term progress of our countries’ economies,” said Yasushi Itagaki, President Director* of Bank Danamon.

He added: “The MUFG-Bank Danamon business matching event aims to bring the best from our combined client networks together for the first time and serves as a good opportunity to build valuable relationships that will hopefully result in a successful business deal or two. We wish our clients every success in finding the right partners for their next stage of growth at this networking event.”
